This week for our '2022, It's Nice To Meet You' series we chat to Maeva Heim, the Founder & CEO of Bread Beauty Supply, the new brand gaining momentum worldwide (they're even launching seven products with Sephora Australia in 2022).
We were over the moon to chat to the talented & hard working woman behind the brand & spoke to Maeva about her love for the AOL diaries, her organisation hacks, the learnings she is taking from 2021 & what she is most looking forward to 'meeting' in 2022.
Name: Maeva Heim
Traditional Place Name: Wajuk
What are you most looking forward to ‘meeting’ in 2022?
For me, I don’t necessarily distinguish between life and work. What I do for a living (owning and running my business baby, BREAD), is my life’s work. Naturally, it’s very important to me. So, in 2022 I’m most looking forward to meeting a more centered version of myself as a business owner. Our first year, we launched in the midst of a global pandemic, the likes of which most of us had never experienced in our lifetime. Existing through this phase was difficult in general. As a new business, it was even more challenging. We’ve now started to find our feet, and have built a muscle in our business culture that gives us so much strength to move forward in ambiguous circumstances. As the CEO of this business, I too have found my feet, and look forward to meeting this evolved version of myself in 2022 as we take BREAD even further globally.
Looking forward to being able to travel again, and connect with my friends and family around the world. Pre-pandemic, I always had this thing I would say: ‘I travel for a purpose’. By that I meant I hated travelling just for fun. I know, I sound like an idiot, but it’s true! One of the things I loved most in the world was being able to travel to new places for something specific - usually for a work opportunity or a study opportunity, and very rarely for a ‘holiday’. The holiday and discover of these new places and experiences came as an ancillary; a nice bonus. That's just how I’ve always viewed travel, and I absolutely loved it. I’m looking forward to being able to do that again.
Reflecting back on 2021, what is something you have learnt that you will take through to 2022?
I’ve learned that when you don’t listen to your gut, it will continue to guide you by teaching you the same lesson over and over again - until you get it. I’ve also learned that, even in a pandemic, the world moves fast. Sometimes it makes sense to work through things in your time, to be methodical and thoughtful, and sometimes, it doesn’t. Sometimes you have to run before you can walk, and that’s ok.
What is one personal, professional or financial goal you will be tracking in your 2022 diary?
We have a huge year lined up for BREAD, so I’ve got my eye firmly planted on tracking our big sales goals!
How many years have you been using an An Organised Life Diary?
I’ve been using An Organised Life Diary for about 4 years now. I first became familiar with the brand back in the day when I was one of the co-hosts on the LADY-BRAINS podcast. We had the absolute pleasure of interviewing Beck (Founder of An Organised Life), and I became obsessed with the brand mission and products. I used to use a written diary religiously when I was at University, and it served me so well. To get back into that groove, of writing things down with your hands and a paper and pen, felt like going back to roots of my productivity. It feels less foggy to have things on paper, in ink, so the habit of doing it really helps me to stay centered.
What 2022 diary did you pick & why did you choose that style?
I chose the Weekly Planner in Beige. I’ve always done black, and felt like it was time to mix things up a bit. Also, my favourite dress and bag are both black, so I really wanted my diary to be easy to spot and distinguish!
Talk us through that feeling when you first unboxed your new AOL 2022 Diary? What did you notice?
I think it all comes down the to details. When you open a package, the smallest things - like how the tissue paper is wrapped and fastened, to how snuggly everything fits, all impacts how you feel about the product. When I opened my diary, all of those details were noticed, and it really does feel like something special.
What is your favourite feature in your 2022 diary & how will it help you stay organised?
I think the feature that will have the most impact on ensuring I have the best 2022 possible is the weekly focus section. I’m looking forward to adding time in my week to sit down with my AOL 2022 Diary to take a moment to check in and set priorities for my week.
What are the top 3 ways you organise your life?
- I like to make lists, and I love crossing things off my list even more!
- I spent at least an hour each day noting what needs to be done that day, and that week.
- I plan my year in blocks, starting for the biggest goals and then break those down into medium goals and then into little tasks that make up the daily and weekly work.
What are 3 things in your wellbeing toolkit?
- My dog. She’s so special (like everyone’s dog!)
- Coffee. I know for some people coffee is the opposite of wellbeing, but for me it’s my daily ritual.
- Walks. Just simple walks. Whenever I walk I try to look at the world as if I was an alien, and it’s the first time I’ve seen a tree or a flower. It really makes everything that you see feel so foreign and strange, and I develop a much deeper appreciation for how special nature is. How cool are flowers!
What are your current desk essentials?
My AOL diary, our BREAD hair-wash (sounds odd, but I like keeping it on my desk so I can smell it throughout the day. It smells like a bowl of frootloops cereal milk), and a coffee in an insulated cup so it stays hot - I take AGES to drink my coffee.
Top Work From Home organisation hack?
I give myself things to look forward to and tasks that I need to complete before I let myself have the treat. You want to have an icecream? Ok cool, let’s finish this spreadsheet and then go for it. It helps to stop me from constantly wanting to do whatever I want!
