WORKSPACES: Go inside our Founder, Beck Wadworth's new home office!

Our Founder, Beck Wadworth, is known for her minimalist style but also her love of all things functional & organised (of course!). As many of you know, Beck moved back home to New Zealand last year & over the last few months she has been working with the amazing team at SLOW to create her home office space. We had an exclusive preview of the new space & chatted to Beck & also Martina from SLOW about the inspiration behind the office & more.
Beck, you moved back to New Zealand last year & have kept the An Organised Life brand based in Australia. Has that been a hard transition?
When Jason & I moved to Sydney for our careers, we only thought we would be there for 1 or 2 years maximum. We ended up living in beautiful Sydney for over 6 years! I really made the most of my time there & I worked extremely hard - I loved it! I also started my business over there - which was something I had never planned but decided to give it a go. I owe Australia so much & am so grateful that I could keep the An Organised Life brand in Australia with my incredible team while I work remotely on my own in New Zealand. Of course, I travel back monthly for a week or so to be on the ground in the Sydney based office & support the team in person, but we have all found the transition pretty seamless. I think it helped that I planned to move 12 months before we actually did, so it gave me the time I needed to make sure everything was all organised & prepped for the change. I'm also excited to start concentrating on New Zealand more & grow the brand over here as well - we have so many dedicated AOL lovers in my home country & that will be a focus for us over the next 12 months.
Over the last few months you have been working on your new home office in Parnell, Auckland - talk us through how this came about & what you wanted to create?
One thing I have realised over the last few years, is that I'm one of those people who works efficiently from home - I don't seem to get distracted. I'm such a workaholic I really love powering through as much as I can every single day & liaising with the AOL team remotely from New Zealand. When I work hard during those weeks, it also means once I get to Sydney or another destination I can really focus on the team, shoots & meetings without feeling like I'm getting behind.
I was fortunate to meet Sunny & Martina from SLOW last year for the launch of their incredible store that is based in Queenstown (they also stock AOL). Our design aesthetic & values are really aligned & with their interior design background, I knew they would be the best people to help me find the right pieces to create my dream home office where I can feel inspired & motivated every day.
They also understood that I wanted the space to be extremely functional, minimalistic, & to complement my style & the AOL brand while also being appropriate as a home office.
I'm over the moon with the outcome & love being in a space that is so me.
Martina, you worked closely with Beck to create a functional but beautiful space. What was your inspiration for Beck's space?
I wanted to create Beck a design that has a minimal, luxurious look and feel. Effortless with distinct design features and details which bond together classic, modern and turn of the century design aspects – all underscored by functionality that was of importance to Beck’s home office needs.
Beck, what’s your must-have desk essentials?
1. An An Organised Life Diary of course - I picked the 2020 Daily Planner in Gold for the New Year with the initial "B." monogrammed on the top right hand corner.
2. A carafe & glass for staying hydrated - my fave at the moment is one from Fern Living at SLOW.
3. A Lumira or Jo Malone candle.
4. A notepad or notebook for taking extra notes & jotting down ideas.
5. A tray & pen holder to host all of my pens, a ruler, scissors & paper samples for An Organised Life.
The new space has so many beautiful features, what are your favourites?
Beck:
I love the black shelving - it's so functional but such a cool design feature in the space. It holds a lot of my new samples, current products, plus magazines & pieces that inspire me.
The hanging rack is another favourite of mine. I shoot for different brands every single week, & having this rack in the workspace means I can have everything organised, accessible & ready to go for the shoot & events.
Martina:
The Ferm Living Wooden Desk is a favourite of mine. It suits Beck's style so well but is also such a statement piece in the space.
I also love the incredible Ferm Living Mirror too that compliments the space so well.
And last but not least... any advice for other's creating a home office space?
Create a space that is both functional & inspiring. You want to walk into the space (no matter how big or small) & for it to motivate you & push you. A space that reflects you & makes you happy to work in.
