How long have you worked from home:
My normal office is set up at home which is by the coast in Ocean Grove, Victoria.
Where is your home workspace set up & why did you pick this spot?
Currently I have taken over the dining room with my laptop, books and camera equipment sprawled across the table. My partner and I are currently in the process of building a new home so at the moment are taking temporary residence. We can’t wait to set up our new home office space!
Working from home is your normal. Can you let us in on your number 1 tip for staying productive while working from home?
As Shaun and I work full-time together, at the beginning of every day we head outdoors to clear our head with a run along the beach before getting down to business and focusing on our workload ahead. We set ourselves our daily tasks and write them down in our AOL Diary – these usually include emails, accounting work and mood boarding creative concepts for upcoming projects.
What are your workspace essentials currently at your desk?
- Laptop to complete my daily tasks – emails, image editing etc
- My AOL Diary – to work through our to-do list for the day
- Coffee – do I need to explain??!
- Magazines – always my first go-to when in search of inspiration when mood boarding
How do you ensure you stay organised & also inspired?
I am fortunate to have Shaun by my side who is the ‘organised king’. I am a sucker for attempting to do 5 things at once so he is always on my back to just slow down, follow our to-do list and tick off one task at a time. He keeps me on track. I find a lot of my inspiration by mood boarding imagery from fashion magazines and Pinterest. I’ve learnt over the past few years that having a mood board on hand when working on a project for a client is essential.
What do you love the most about working from home?
I love the flexibility. We’re so lucky to live by the ocean so at any point in the day if we feel like we need to switch off from work mode for a moment, we go grab a coffee at our local and sit by the water and enjoy the views. I’m also someone that seems to be more productive at night, so I love to enjoy the sunshine in the morning and then get down to business later in the day. You’ll usually find me on laptop editing away at 10pm at night. It’s just how I work!
And how about the most challenging? Do you have a strategy to overcome this challenge?
One thing about working from home is that you can always find distractions if you look hard enough which is why I find it so important to set yourself a to-do list. Before you start any of the tasks set for the day, make sure you have exercised, are showered and dressed, eaten your breakfast and have your coffee sitting at your desk. Have the mindset to be 100% focused on your work tasks with no excuse to get up and find distractions.
Top 5 songs on your WFH playlist?
I recently bought a new record player so I have had fun pulling out old vinyl and listening to the classics. It’s so hard to list just 5 as I would say that every song on the Fleetwood Mac ‘Rumours’ album would be on my list. If I had to list just one it would have to be ‘Go Your Own Way’. ‘Ironic’ by Alanis Morrissette, ‘Dancing in the Moonlight’ by King Harvest, ‘Brown Eyed Girl’ by Van Morrison and ‘Save Tonight’ by Eagle Eye Cherry are also some other favourites.
