The Art Of Note Taking

Even in a digital world, the art of note taking still holds its value with so many of us putting pen to paper on a daily basis. In essence note taking is the practice of recording information, in this process we free our minds from having to recall everything allowing us to be more present to the information around us.
Note Taking is not just re-writing information however, the thing to remember with note taking is that in any form it should be a summary of short sentences, phrases or dot points written in your own words so as to remember and make sense when reading back.
Note taking starts with a notebook and pen or even the notes section on your phone, however, we find the notion of putting pen to paper to be therapeutic - there's also studies that show you’re more likely to remember something if you’ve written it down.
Ways in which we love to note take:
-
Unraveling our thoughts in our head - sometimes it might be an idea, a dream, a memory, a moment, a business idea
-
Documenting a moment of our life - a break up, pregnancy journey, travels etc.
-
Of course, at the AOL HQ we’re always note taking in our team meetings
-
Noting down poems and quotes that resonate with our lives
-
Documenting information from non fiction books and documentaries we connect with and want to remember
-
Journaling about our daily experiences, the details of things and people we interacted with during the day and what emotions that provoked
-
Decision making - jotting down pro’s and con’s & note-taking with the goal of coming to a conclusion.
