Take Note - this one simple rule will help you to tackle emails like a pro
The answer is simple.
Nowadays, no matter what your career or job is, we usually find ourselves spending ample amounts of hours a week reading, writing, and replying to emails. It’s an easy and effective way of communicating and overall the pros far out way the cons. However, when it comes to organising your emails both personally and professionally - it can be an extremely overwhelming, negative and stressful experience. This is all about to change - take note!
The answer is simple - if you want to tackle your emails like a pro, you need to create an organisation and filing strategy that works for you. What are you personally wanting to get out of your email system? Structure? Separation? A visual list of your priorities?
Are you someone who receives a million emails a day that you need to keep for the future but don’t necessarily need to reply to? Then you need a very strong filing system. Or are you someone who is on the go and needs your unread emails at the forefront on both your mobile and laptop? Then you need a system showing read and unread emails clearly. Or maybe you are someone who is across a lot of different areas or clients, and need to be able to differentiate between them all? Then you need a colour coding or star system.
Personally, I have tried and tested many different approaches on many different email systems (e.g Outlook and Gmail) over the years. What works for one person or one system, doesn’t always work for the other. The key is to really nut out a strategy that works for you and to stick to it - this will make your life a lot easier!
