Putting Pen to Paper with Jessica Eva from The Eve Studio

Our new Putting Pen To Paper series, features different individuals & showcases what they use their favourite notebook for. It could be for poetry, sketching, song writing, illustrations, notes, daily gratitudes & everything in between.
The fourth talented creative in our series is Jessica Eva from The Eve Studio - a marketing & creative studio. We spoke to Jessica about putting pen to paper & took a glimpse inside her notebook.
Occupation?
I’ve always been told my brain sits between creative and business - I guess that best describes what I do. I run The Eve Studio - a marketing and creative studio, which means my day-to-day includes anything from styling and shooting content, copywriting, designing communication strategies for clients or consulting calls. I love being self-driven and that my days are a bit of everything.
Plain or Lined paper?
I tend to lean towards Lined - my ‘creative’ side often leads my hand to scribble all over the page. I need lines to keep me structured. However a plain page comes in handy when I get an idea for creative concepts like photography, sewing projects and styling, so that I can sketch these out and plan.
When do you put pen to paper?
Putting pen to paper is my way of setting myself up for the day. In the mornings after an at-home workout I like to sit with my coffee and a notebook and note two things I’m grateful for and one intention for the day. If my mind is particularly cluttered that morning I’ll switch out my notebooks and journal my thoughts or write a to-do list to alleviate the feeling of stress.
I’ve been using the Weekly Planner for a while now to set up my week. I fill this out on a Monday morning and keep it on my desk as I work so that I can methodically work through each day’s tasks. This system keeps me at my most productive all week. Beside that I also keep a blank notebook ready for other ideas that pop into my head or to take notes on during client calls, so I can keep my planner task focused and ideas and notes in another. I’m very visual so I like having all of this laid out in front of me.
What inspired the Pen to Paper in your images?
In both a personal and professional sense I use Pen to Paper as a practise to slow. This year has really sparked my creativity and I feel really energised. So making space for these moments is a beautiful thing and enables me to approach life with intention.
The act of opening a blank page to write words of gratitude at the beginning of my day or sketching an idea out before I start making it, allows me to pause and see things through with a clear mindset.
What does journaling look like to you/how do you journal?
I have always loved to write pages upon pages in my journal. I’ve never really gotten into a bullet journal type concept outside of to-do lists. When I journal it’s more of a stream of consciousness to get what’s on my mind onto paper. This approach helps me to work through things, often if I’m going through a challenging time or feeling something strongly (be it positive or negative) I’ll crave sitting with an open page and just writing. It’s a form of release more than documentation and a way of gathering my thoughts, affirming positive intentions and finding the good in every experience.
