PART 3: Spring Clean Your Wardrobe
Got your new season wish list ready? Well, you’ll need to give your wardrobe a spring clean first. And as the arrival of the warmer weather is exactly what we have all been waiting for after a long and dreary winter, the annual wardrobe clean-out that comes with is somewhat less exciting. Here are our top three tips for helping you keep your wardrobe spring clean as stress-free as possible, so you maintain the closet of your dreams.
Tip One:
Do a seasonal swap. Place all of your clothes onto your bed, put your winter clothes on one side and your summer clothes on the other. Look at your winter clothes, if there is any you didn’t wear more than once or twice, put them in a bag and give them to charity – be ruthless. Seal those items left over in an air tight container or a vacuum sealed bag and store them for next winter. By doing a seasonal swap and not looking at your winter items for another six months or so, it’ll feel like you have a new winter wardrobe when you do! You should do the same at the end of summer also.
Tip Two:
Clean your wardrobe. Before you hang and fold your clothes for spring, tidy your wardrobe and give it a clean – dust the shelves, racks, boxes and give the floor a sweep or a vacuum.
Tip Three:
Organise your essentials. You’ll notice pretty quickly that some of your essentials might be missing, such as a white tee, or a black maxi skirt, or a pair of denim shorts. Your essentials are those classic, simple, timeless basics in your wardrobe that can be worn over and over again, so note down what is missing. Think neutral and make sure these pieces compliment your summer wardrobe. The key thing here is to understand what you have and what you actually need. Take your time and invest in these key pieces over the summer. Focus on fabric, cut and quality to ensure these items last more than one season.
