This year one of my personal goals was to take really good care of my skin. After struggling a lot with hormonal acne late last year I was introduced to the Dr Spiller brand and it worked absolute wonders on my skin. An organisation lover herself, I had the chance to interview Sue Dann from Dr Spiller recently about her advice for looking after your skin and how we can organise our skincare routines.
1. First things first, I'm an addicted Dr Spiller user! It's changed my life and has left my skin glowing after a struggle with hormonal acne! But for everyone who is knew to hearing about Dr Spiller would you mind letting us know how did ‘Dr Spiller’ came about and how is it different?
Dr Spiller originated in Germany in the 1950’s. He was aware that most products available in the skincare industry were water based and therefore had a limited ability to penetrate the skin offering longer lasting results - because the skin is waterproof. His research and development of products that are biomimetic, oil based, copying the skins own function was his breakthrough that is still utilised today. This difference between Dr Spiller Biomimetic Skincare and other products readily available on the market is obvious from the first facial or the first time a client uses the products.
2. What are your top 3 tips for looking after your skin on holiday for the European Summer?
Tip 1 - Ensure that your skincare routine doesn’t strip your protective layer, the acid mantle. Your skin should never feel tight or dry.
Tip 2 - Use an oil based hydrator suitable for your age and skin condition. This will give you long lasting protection from dehydration even in the hottest, driest climatic conditions.
Tip 3 - a good quality physical sunblock.
3. What does your daily skin ritual look like? And how can we get more organised with our skincare?
My daily skincare is simple : cleanse, tone, serum, moisturiser morning and night, adding in an exfoliant twice weekly. Our skin and body reacts positively when in a routine and under minimal stress, so I am a great believer in a regular, simple regime.
4. What's your favourite thing about your chosen profession and what have your highlights been to date?
I have been this profession for 40 years now. I am fortunate to have been working with Dr Spiller products for 15 years and I just love the reaction of clients when they first understand the simple philosophy to Dr Spiller and then see the results. Changing clients skin. Many clients come to us after trying several other ranges without success. Its fabulous to see their reaction to having rediscovered great skin.
5. What's been the most challenging?
Educating clients about our products is a very important part of our job. Dr Spiller being oil based or biomimetic, has a very different philosophy to other brands on the market and therefore the way therapists are trained and the way the philosophy is delivered has to be different. Once clients and therapists understand the theory it becomes a go-to range.
6. What are the top 3 ways you organise your life daily?
Routine is important in life generally, so I strive to achieve that as much as possible. I like to keep food simple and as healthy as possible especially with all the travelling that I do. Getting to bed by 10pm is good as the hours before midnight are worth more then the hours after.
7. What does organisation mean to you?
To me organisation means a less stressful and balanced life. I am sometimes unorganised but that is something that can easily be changed. Being disorganised is a problem as these situations can get very stressful.
8. What is your workspace style & what essentials would we find on your desk at the moment?
I like to be without clutter around me as much as possible, and work better without it. On my desk is my laptop, telephone, diary, notebook and ever present herbal tea.
